Getting started with HomeKit and Lutron is very easy. All you’ll need is a Lutron Smart Bridge, and at least one blind or shade. Install the Smart Bridge, download the Lutron app, and add your blinds. Siri can be set up in a few short steps through the Lutron app integration. It only takes ten minutes to connect everything up, the shades to the app, bridge and remote.
HomeKit is intuitive with Lutron shades; you can use Siri to open the blind, close the mind, or set the blinds to a specific percentage open. You can even use natural language like “Lower the blinds”, or “Open the window a little”, and Siri will understand. Siri can control HomeKit shades from iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Apple Watch, Apple TV, HomePod, and the Mac. Everyone in your home will be able to control your lighting from their own device, once you’ve invited them – giving you the ultimate in lighting convenience.
HomeKit features the ability to use Automation, whereby you could ask the blinds to open depending on your location, the time of day, or the temperature. The Lutron app, which is available for both iOS and Android devices, also allows you to programme schedules to open and close your shades automatically at specific times, or sunrise and sunset – making this an ideal functionality for anywhere you need privacy.
You can even control Lutron Blinds with other HomeKit accessories based on your routine, for example, setting up a “Good Night” scene could lower the blinds, turn off the lights and turn the thermostat down. These scenes can be activated by voice using Siri, by using the Home app, or from your Apple Watch. At the end of a long day, it’s so nice to be able to just crawl into bed and close the blinds, without your head even leaving the pillow. Tidmarsh and Lutron can make this happen with Siri and Apple HomeKit.
