We know that this year has been challenging and hard for all of us, and Christmas won’t be the same social affair that it normally can be. So it’s more important than ever to make sure that your home is beautifully festive and a joy to spend time in. There’s only two weeks to go to the most wonderful time of the year, so read on for a few of our favourite tips for getting your home Christmas ready for the season – a festive glass of Prosecco is optional but recommended!
First things first, declutter, declutter, declutter! Throwing away anything that’s out of date, broken, or unloved will make room for the presents and new treats that will be making their way into your home during the Christmas season. If you’re cooking Christmas lunch at home this year, which most of us will be, you can give yourself as much preparation space as possible by tidying, clearing and putting away any un-needed clutter on the kitchen surfaces.
A Grand Entrance
A great first impression is key when you’re welcoming guests to your home over Christmas. We know that this year it will only be the people within your Christmas Bubble coming to visit – but why not make it as special as possible for them? Spruce up your hallway to make sure that you’re instantly impressing your guests the moment that they step in the door. Put away anything that doesn’t belong, in shoe racks or coat stands if you have them, to maximise the space that you have available. Knowing that your guests are coming in and out, you want to make sure there’s enough walking space. Your front door is of course a great place to hang a festive wreath, while adding a bit of tinsel or foliage to your hallway decorations – a mirror or bannisters – is a wonderful way to show your festive spirit as soon as you step through the front door.
Keep it Simple
This year has been tough for all of us, and we know that for many, this holiday season will be tighter than usual. But there’s no need to go overboard with your decorations or spend a lot of money on ornaments to get in the Christmas spirit. Pick a colour scheme and choose just a few key decorations that make you really smile. Keep the rest of your decorations low key to emphasise your favourites.
Stick to your Theme
Make your home the ultimate Classy Christmas Grotto by choosing decorations and festive furnishings that match your home decor. If you’ve chosen cool blues and whites through your home, go for a frosty winter theme. If your home is more traditional and warm feeling, then a classic red and gold theme will work very well. By sticking to a similar colour palette, you set a classy and refined tone for your home that is a joy to be around for the whole festive season.
There’s nothing worse than being cold in your own home, especially at Christmas with your closest family around. Have a read of our blog post on how to stay warm and reduce your bills with Tidmarsh to make sure you’re not caught out this Christmas! Small things like stocking up on blankets can make your home extra cosy and comfortable without spending out hundreds in extra heating bills.
More importantly than anything else, Christmas is the time to relax and enjoy spending time with your loved ones. This week has been incredibly difficult for all of us. Make sure you take a step back and a deep breath and make the most of your holiday this year.
