While we’re all spending much more time indoors, our homes and houses have become more of a focus than ever. Many of us have spent the last couple of months looking idly at Pinterest, searching for inspiration, and planning new renovations and changes to our homes. We love fantasising about our ideal homes, from perfect cosy bedrooms to midcentury modern living rooms, and we know we’re not the only ones! Furniture brand Arlo & Jacob conducted a survey asking 1,000 UK residents what their dream home would look like, and we were fascinated by the results.

Bedrooms

Interestingly, most of those surveyed are quite modest in their dream home desires, with the results revealing that three bedrooms are the average requested number. More than half of the participants would like an en-suite, a dressing room, and a walk-in wardrobe, while over a third of people would like a balcony in their bedroom. In terms of design, white and grey with touches of blue are the preferred colour choices. This matches perfectly with our recent colour investigations where we determined that blue is the perfect relaxing colour for a bedroom.

Living Rooms

More than half of those surveyed would like a smart TV in their lounges, while 40% would love a big open fire and fireplace. Being cosy and warm, especially during the cold winter months, is important to most dream homes. We can’t really think of anything better than curling up in front of the fire with a good book or a heartwarming film when it’s frosty outside, and it seems like we’re not alone. Corner sofas are by far the most wanted seating request, while more than a quarter of people chose a minimal white theme for the room, with warming tones of grey and brown.

Kitchen

The overriding aesthetic theme throughout the survey is freshness and simplicity – and the kitchen is no exception. A white kitchen is the most requested colour, with a clean, fresh and minimal style throughout. We’re also big coffee lovers, with over 30% of participants wanting a home coffee machine. We can’t argue – especially in the colder months, caffeine is a daily essential. The kitchen is fast becoming the social hub of a home, with nearly half of all people surveyed wanting a kitchen island to socialise around.
